Current Programme

CECOD in partnership with Danish Outdoor Council (DOC), is implementing the Eco Community School Programme to contribute towards Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in Uganda by providing quality education through promotion of Environmental Action Based Learning in Primary Schools as a Tool for Sustainable Community Development. The pilot progeramme (2006-2009) is based in Mbarara and Bushenyi Districts contributing to ESD Goals.

Goal 1: Improvement of Basic Education

The Programme is promoting Environmental Education through the internationally recognized Eco school Concept.

Goal 2: Re-orientation of existing curriculum to
address Sustainable development.

The Eco Community School Programme is introducing appropriate teaching methods and materials enhance action based learning in primary schools
Acknowledgement and promotion of Indigenous Knowledge in schools to enhance intergenerational transfer of knowledge and skills.

Goal 3: Develop Public Awareness and
Understanding of Sustainability

Strengthen the community network concept for sustainability and stewardship through shared values, visions and principles.

Promotion of people centered advocacy and good governance.

Publication of information and education materials and use of the media to raise public awareness.

Goal 4. Provide Training of all Sectors of workforce in Society

Community Empowerment trough trainings tailored towards enhancing active citizenship.

Thematic trainings in establishment and application of environmentally friendly innovations and projects.
