About CECOD

Background

CECOD was established in the year 1999 by qualified and committed environmental scientists, social workers and academicians after a realization was made that the state of environment in the region was alarming and contributing to escalation of house hold poverty especially among rural communities.

The 1999 prolonged drought in particular, which claimed many lives of animals and left poor communities with out food in their homes, posed a need for combined efforts to arrest the situation.

Convinced that through combined efforts it was possible to reverse the trend, dedicated and committed community members founded CECOD as a joint effort to address environment and poverty issues in Uganda.

CECOD is registered with the Ministry of Internal Affairs as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Reg. No. S.5914/3707 mandated to promote natural resource management alternatives and poverty alleviation initiatives in the country for sustainable community development.  CECOD is also registered with the Ministry of Justice as a corporate body Limited by Guarantee without shares, No. 82657.

Since inception, CECOD has worked closely with Government line ministries / departments and other development partners in the field of natural resource management, education, policy advocacy and community development.

CECOD is accredited to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and is a member of Foundation for Environmental Education International (FEE) representing Uganda.
